Are hospice patients referred early enough?
After a patient's death we ask family members and caregivers for feedback on their hospice experience. We use the nationally normed National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization survey to compare our care with other hospices.
One important question asked is "Was the patient referred to hospice at the right time?" Frequently families do not feel that their loved ones are referred to Benton Hospice Service early enough.
We know many factors affect when a patient or family decides that hospice is the right option. We also know that patients rely on the information and recommendations you provide as they make decisions. Tell your patients about what hospice offers and the end-of-life care we can provide, and refer them to Benton Hospice Service at the earliest appropriate time in their illness.
